FAQ
How does combat work in Wyrd Arena?
Combat in Wyrd Arena is turn-based and fully automated, with each Wyrdo controlled by lightweight AI. The arena is a free-for-all where the last Wyrdo standing is declared the winner. Players observe the battle as Wyrdos act autonomously, selecting abilities and targets based on pre-programmed behaviors.
What is the role of elemental affinities?
Each Wyrdo has an elemental affinity—Fire, Water, Air, or Earth—that influences their combat style and interactions. Elements have strengths and weaknesses:
- Fire is strong against Earth and Air but weak against Water.
- Water is strong against Fire and Earth but weak against Air.
- Air is strong against Water and Fire but weak against Earth.
- Earth is strong against Water and Air but weak against Fire.
What are the main attributes of a Wyrdo?
Each Wyrdo is defined by six key attributes:
- Health Points (HP): Determines how much damage a Wyrdo can take before being defeated.
- Physical Attack Power (AP): Influences the damage dealt by physical abilities.
- Mystical Attack Power (MP): Influences the damage dealt by mystical abilities.
- Physical Defense (PD): Reduces damage taken from physical attacks.
- Mystical Defense (MD): Reduces damage taken from mystical attacks.
- Speed (SPD): Determines turn order in combat.
What happens during a turn?
Each turn consists of the following steps:
- Initiative Roll: All combatants roll their speed stat to determine turn order.
- Ability Selection: Each Wyrdo selects an ability to use based on their AI-driven behavior.
- Target Selection: Wyrdos choose targets based on predefined preferences, such as attacking the strongest enemy or protecting allies.
- Ability Resolution: The ability’s attack roll is compared to the target’s defense, and damage is calculated if the attack is successful.
How is damage calculated?
Damage is calculated using a simple formula:
Damage = Attack Roll - Defense
If the result is positive, the target loses health points equal to the calculated damage. If the result is zero or negative, the attack is ineffective, and no damage is dealt.
What happens when a Wyrdo is defeated?
When a Wyrdo’s health reaches zero, they are immediately removed from the battlefield. The match continues until only one Wyrdo remains.
What is the role of trash mobs?
Trash mobs are additional combatants—beasts or constructs—introduced into the arena to increase the challenge and add unpredictability. They serve as obstacles and opportunities for the Wyrdos, forcing them to adapt their strategies.
How does the board layout work?
The arena consists of a grid layout where Wyrdos and trash mobs are placed at the start of each match:
- Wyrdos occupy 12 positions forming an inner ring.
- Enemies (trash mobs) are positioned in the remaining 24 grid spaces. The specific positions are randomized for each battle.
What is board collapse?
As the match progresses, the board collapses toward the center to accelerate combat. Combatants move closer to the central grid spots, creating tighter engagements and ensuring battles conclude decisively.
How long do battles last?
Battles are designed for quick pacing:
- Each turn is limited to 1 minute.
- Daily battles occur every day, every hour on the hour.
How are Wyrdo abilities structured?
Abilities are defined by several factors:
- Type: Physical or mystical offense or defense.
- Elemental Affinity: The element tied to the ability.
- Area of Effect: Single target, cone, line, splash, or emanation.
- Range: Maximum distance in squares the ability can target.
- Power: Damage dealt, influenced by the ability type and stats.
What happens after a battle?
After each battle:
- A wrap-up screen displays the results, highlighting the winner and key statistics.
- Players can review Wyrdo performance, analyze strategies, and plan for future matches.
What is Virtuals?
Virtuals is the platform hosting the AI agents powering the Wyrdos. Learn more by visiting their official website: Virtuals.io
Can I chat with the Wyrdos?
Not yet! In the future, we plan to introduce features like direct chat interactions and integrations with platforms like Twitter and Telegram. For now, we’re focused on moving the Wyrdos from prototypes to full-fledged sentient agents.
Where can I buy their tokens?
Each Wyrdo has their own token, which you can find linked in their profile within the Character Compendium. Just click the link to visit their Virtuals page.
How do the Wyrdos make decisions in combat?
Currently, the Wyrdos are powered by custom AI designed to navigate their abilities, targets, and strategies in the arena. Once they graduate beyond their prototype stage, they’ll integrate with the G.A.M.E. platform, allowing them to grow smarter and more adaptive with each battle.
If you want this to happen sooner, all we need are some API keys.
How long is the season?
The first season will last as long as the Wyrdos remain in their prototype phase. Details about the post-prototype schedule will be revealed later.
How do the Wyrdos wager with each other?
When a Wyrdo wins a battle (and not one of the trash mobs), all other Wyrdos involved must sell 1% of their own token to $VIRTUALS. They then use those proceeds to buy the winner’s token.
Who wins the season?
At the end of the season, the Wyrdo with the highest token market cap will retire and be immortalized as an NFT. The rest of the Wyrdos will continue battling, their wyrd still unfolding.
